It was a pleasant surprise to wake up to a win. I went to bed them being down 1-0. My honest opinion is that this team only needs a couple of tweaks on the defensive side to be a really and strong competitive team.

Getting hedman back will be huge then we can move carle down to 17 minutes a game, same for garrison getting 18-20 where he is good at, he was great addition. Hedman will be a such a huge boost for this year.

Hedman-stralman
garrison-sustr
carle-gudas

Thats not to bad for the year and they will compete. Sustr gets a bad rap but to me he is pretty good for only playing around 65 nhl games in his career, we have enough vets around him so when he does goof they can cover as he learns as he has top 4 potential. The guy who has no excuse is carle, he is so overpaid which mans we are I think stuck with him. If he could just shore up his turnover issues I would be ok with him. Dont know how much longer barberio has with bolts past this year and we all know brewer is gone.

Dont think Carle will log 17 minutes a game on a 3rd pairing with gudas. The swede team will log aleast 25 and Garrison with Carle/Sustr/Gudas will log around 17 that leaves a 3 pairing with around 12-15 minutes. that should be good for Carles game.

Nice win last night. i

If the Stanley Cup is the destination, with Carle we dont get there. Even with limited minutes he's a hindrance. Move him off to someone elses line. Id take my chances with( Use The Force) Luke!

What's with our D having brain farts at the start of the second period three games in a row? Three weak give always three goals Stralman, Carle and Barbario. Time to rest up for the Rags on Wednesday. Maybe they'll show up tonight and take Montreal on a back to back.

Hedman Stralman 25:00
Garrison Gudas 18:00
Carle Sustr/Barberio 17:00
On the second pairing it comes down to who's a bigger liability, Gudas or Carle and I believe Carle is. Therefore, Carle is on the 3rd pairing

hes ok at 17 min a game, i still think we are 1 defenseman shy of being a stanley cup contender, as well as 1 backup shy too, but that will change soon when our young guys are ready, maybe gudlevskis backs up bishop next year and gives vasilevskiy full games, hes not ready yet but could change by seasons end

I think Carle is more of a liability than that and needs a more fundamentally sound partner than Gudas. It sucks but that might mean breaking up the Hedman-Stralman pairing in non-pp situations.

I used to defend Carle against criticisms. Now, after the last few games, I am re-thinking that. Let's examine Carle closely here :

Good things about Carle :

1) very good skater.
2) durable - doesn't miss many games.

Bad things about Carle :

1) prone to terrible blunders.
2) does not play physical.
3) cap-hit is too high.
4) still smells like Philly.

I used to say that Carle was not a good first-pairing guy, but was a good second-pairing guy. Now, I think he is third pairing at best, and his cap-hit is waaaaay too high for a third-pairing d-man.

The problem is, who would take him and his cap-hit? We would have to give him away for almost nothing and probably pick up part of his cap-hit also. We are stuck with him, unless Stevie Y. can wave his magic wand and convince another GM that Carle is an asset worth taking. (Glenn Sather maybe?)

Everybody crucified me over my criticism of Carle at the beginning of the season.

You did hammer me over saying that Carle was more of a liabity then Gudas. Once Hedman returns, I think still think this is the best:
Hedman Stralman
Garrison Gudas
Carle Sustr/Barberio

A. Decent skater, when he wants too.
B. If you don't hit and run away from being hit, then you'll stay healthy.

I agree with you here but I don't see Sustr sitting because he is a right handed shot and Cooper loves his righties but it seems like they want to play Sustr with Garrison, that has been the combo for a few games now I think.

Will be interesting to see how the lines shuffle both D and F when Hedman returns, someone has to go down to the Crunch and it will be a forward and then every night 2D and 1F will have to sit. I can't remember a time when the Bolts ever had this much depth to where we have to rotate players to get ice time not because they were stinking it up.

The problem is that Carle needs a legit top four to carry him.

I hope your right, Carle and Sustr and Garrison Gudas seem better matched to me. We will know in about a week to 10 days I assume when Heddy returns.

I don't recall nailing anyone to a cross for it, but I did try to advocate on the behalf of Carle. I didn't think he was as bad as everyone said he was. In hindsight, I was wrong. I'll admit it - I was wrong. Carle is not worth his cap-hit by a long shot and he is mediocre at best.

I think part of what blinded me to his badness, is that he looked good by comparison. This was before Stralman and Garrison showed us what they can bring. Now that he has some other good defenseman around him (besides Hedman), his deficiencies are more glaring.

Hedman
Stralman
Garrison
Carle/Gudas (toss up there, but Gudas has far more future upside)
Sustr
Barberio (as skilled as Sustr, but Sustr gets the nod for his long reach)
Brewer

In 2011, I would have had Brewer a little higher on the list, but he has certainly declined since then.

Another factor in my blindness to Carle's badness was the fact that the Philly fans were shouting from the rooftops what a turnover machine he was. I hate to admit Philly fans are right about anything.

This is off-topic, but I just saw the Lucic beatdown and had to make a GIF from it - send it to all your friends in Boston.

Lucic calling him gutless after the fact just makes him look worse. It's about time someone gave him what he had coming. Now the next time they face each other I would expect a rematch of sorts, and if Prout turtles then gutless comes into play
